    Ha, thanks BIEREN.

    There's something wrong with the left side of his face/jaw-line (on the right side of the picture for the viewer), but I've been unable to deal with it.

    Wow! I think Qui-Gon is amazing. Is that done on canvas or digitally? Either way it is fantastic!

    Amazing start with Qui-Gon, soits! It's very loose and very open. So, if you must, there's plenty of room to go back and tweak some things. But overall, I love what you're doing with this!

    To answer your question about the eyes, I think it may have something to do with the fact that he's looking away from the viewer. It looks almost like he's distracted or watching something off in the distance. Maybe if you could pull his gaze back to the viewer, you would be able to form a connection with them and generate some of that "kindness."

    Thank you, academygrad88. I haven't done anything digital to it yet, other than sharpening the image slightly. It's mixed media, and likely to become even more mixed as things go wrong!

    HanSolo29, thank you for being so complimentary. I like bits of this picture, but when I mirror the image I see a lot wrong. You might well be right about the eyes needing to make contact with the viewer, there is definately something missing there.

    Oh, soits...
    =D==D==D=

    This is BEAUTIful so far!! =D= I'd say the likeness is right on, in the current stage--gorgeous work so far on the skintones, highlights, hair and beard; the mouth and nose are perfect (and those are really the features that define this Jedi Master!). As to the eyes (and the "kindness" you're going for there)--I think as you begin to detail them, you're going to find that coming through: I think the slightly offset gaze works here--he's thinking, or pondering something. I think as you develop the brows and the softness (defining the eyelid creases above the eyes will go a long way toward that "softening"), that kindness is going to come right through (I can see it already! ;) ). I love the light in this--the soft "rim lighting" and that beautiful blue wash for the b/g... All just gorgeous! I love this so far, and will be looking very much forward to seeing the finish! =D=

    Thank you for the advice, FalconFan, this one is a real struggle. I started more than a year ago, discarded it, then found it again a couple of weeks ago and started reworking it. It was easy to see the original flaws and change them, but the new mistakes are more dificult to think around.

    your Qui-Gon is great and already looking like a finished picture. He and Obi-Wan are my favorite characters to paint too.

    Wow, it's been a long time since I posted anything in this thread. Not that I've done much recently. I did get a cheap graphics tablet to play around with, which was good fun, though my art-programs seem to be a little unstable - on many occasions Paint Shop Pro bugged-out, taking my work with it.:mad:

    Anyway, here's me playing about with the tablet:

    Anakin (not a good likeness, but lots of fun to do):

    Copy of a portrait I really can't remember the name of:

    Thanks, earlybird-obi-wan, I really like the colours you have access to in digital work - it's very freeing.
