Is he? Or is he merely the best until someone better comes along?

Once upon a time Stover SW books didn't exist.

I'm calling JJM--had a feeling about it for a while. Only other possibility I can get my head around is Denning.

I just don't think he has the nostalgia cachet they seem to be going for based on the trailer.

George Lucas should write it just like he wrote the original one.

Actually "George Lucas" has written the novelizations of the last two JJ Abrams Star Trek movies so I think it's somewhat possible "George Lucas" will write the Force Awakens novelization but he'll use his real name this time.

This is like learning that Santa isn't real.

What you call Santa is the raw, unrestrained spirit of Christmas itself.

He gave Zayne a yellow lightsaber because his first Luke action figure (the 77 model) had a yellow lightsaber. I'm pretty sure he's up for Star Wars nostalgia.

This makes me consider if the Episode 7 characters will quickly make an appearance in that Once Upon A Time show I've heard about.

And this, in return, made me think if the snowy forest is aiming to draw in Frozen audiences. Hey, Frozen audiences, do you feel attracted by the trailer?

Snowy forests always attract me, be it Skyrim, Frozen or real life (except that in real life snowy woods are often either very slippery or you get snow in your shoes).

I've thought about this, and I'd be terribly disappointed if any name other than "James Luceno" were on the cover. Even if I don't like the film, a Luceno novelization would make up for it. (If Plagueis or Palpatine is the villain of this trilogy, not getting Luceno to do at least one of the novelizations is actually an unpardonable crime.)

I'm guessing either Foster or someone who hasn't written Star Wars before.

I'm not a big SW novel reader, but after JJM's disappointing Kenobi*, I hope he does not write the Episode VII novelization. Same for Tim Lebbon, he did the impossible to Dawn of the Jedi, made it unreadable in prose format.

*Disappointing i where was Kenobi for over 2/3rds of that novel? Why call it Kenobi when it was largely about uninteresting characters on Tattooine?

So, I'll pass if JJM or TL writes this novelization.

I do not have an opinion about other writers mentioned as I have not read enough SW novels to be familiar with them.

Now what would get me to read, some fun material about Luke.

Somewhere, a Del Rey editor is hastily jotting down "fun" in a notepad and putting an asterisk next to it.

The Episode VII novelization should only use droids as POV characters.

Maybe before the Disney buyout, but there's no way Disney would have that filthy, potty-mouthed astromech bleeping his vile obscenities for a whole book.

I want to hug you for spelling "cachet" correctly instead of trying to use "cache" like everyone else does. I'm so desensitized to seeing that, that yours looked wrong at first glance. *shakes head*

K-Mac would be a good one for that idea. He wrote good droids.

I'm sure he's up for nostalgia. The point that I was trying to make is that I don't think the audience is nostalgic for him, versus a more "historied" name like Foster.

I understand what you mean, but the wider public isn't nostalgic for him since he's not the official author of the book. Still, he'd be a PR boon because you could spin the story of how he's the original author, I get that. And yeah, I believe Foster was campaigning to get the Episode 2 novel back in the day, and I'd like to believe that he got The Approaching Storm because of that. My only problem would be that I've read quite a bit of tie-in stuff by him back in the day, between his two SW things and the Star Trek Animated novelizations. His writing never struck me as particularly interesting. Solid, but uneventful.

Anyway, I don't think I'm even that interested in the movie, let alone the novelization. We'll see.
