ST Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Ep. VIII) - Dec 15th, 2017

The first time was understandable. First movie and all. Needed time to get everything in order.
The May 2017 release was stupid anyway. A year and a half?
Let Rogue 1 stand on its own. 2 SW movies competing is stupid as well.
Life doesn't go the way you expect it to. Things change. Don't like it? Tough. Aren't there other movie series' that were moved multiple times?
At least they tried to get it back to May.
Making the best movie possible is the most important.
If it takes more time, so be it.

 

Yeah, it's plain torture! I also can;t wait for Luke being in a movie again.
I hope this delay means more Luke and probably some backstory on Rey and maybe on her mother (Luke's wife )
Del toro is going to be one of the KOR. So I think we only get two or three new characters, Rey's mom, Del toro KOR and some woman/girl to interact with Finn.

 

I mean with this movie in particular it is a bit more frustrating than usual because TFA had SUCH a cliffhanger ending. But, we'll see how it goes.

 

So Disney is completely underestimating what Cameron will do with Avatar 2 in that very same month? I know it's popular to hate on that movie and I agree that the sequels probably won't do Avatar numbers, but if I've learned anything it's that you shouldn't count out Cameron, especially when it comes to sequels. Both Episode VIII and Avatar 2 will take a serious hit to their respective box ofice numbers.

I thought they just said 2015 before the offical anooucement? No?

 

2015 comes before 2016 which comes before 2017 which comes before 2018 which comes before 2019. However, each one comes right after each other and there are no years between them. Hence a Star Wars movie comes out each year.

But they didn't cite Johnson needing more time as a reason. If that had been the case, I would have accepted that reason.

 

Who cares for Avatar when you have Luke?

 

This news came literally within hours of the news that production was delayed because Johnson needed to rewrite the script.

 

And if they'd stuck with the original date, either it of GOTG 2, another Disney property, would have.

 

Nothing is necessarily wrong, and they don't actually owe us every detail anyway.

TFA was originally scheduled for May 2015 - they had a story (Lucas's) and were moving right along. Then Disney corporate decided to dump Lucas's story, then Abrams was hired and said he needed more time to sort out the mess, but Disney wouldn't give him an extra year, only an extra six months, because they "needed to have a return on their investment." Which is silly because their investment would have been given back to them and more no matter when E7 had been released.

 

Within minutes of the announcment Sony changed its Spider-man release date.

Not really "news." More like "rumors."

 

1. This is the third movie.
2. Even with the delay, there will still be one movie per year.

 

I knew that this would happen. But I'm willing to accept it because it gives Johnson more time to make a great film hopefully.

Also has the official reason for the release-date change been announced or is it all speculation at this point?

I was very happy when I saw this. I truly believe it's for the best, and that Episode VIII will be known as the best Star Wars movie ever. Now more than ever.

i always said that i thought having Guardians 2 and episode VIII that close together would be OK

it was may 2019 (Avengers Infinity War Part 2 and episode IX) that i said Disney would never do

i seem to have been proven right in a way i honestly did not expect
