    Apple sauce. I used to live near a Jewish deli in Philly that served them this way and it was rather glorious.

    Syrup and butter are great, of course, but I think my very favorite topping is fresh berries and a little whipped cream:

    My favourite place to get waffles has a toppings bar that has berries/syrup/whip cream and all the usual stuff but also vanilla pudding and that is quite excellent.

    I chose syrup and butter but I often eat them with just butter. I can also go for some whipped cream if I’m in the mood and it’s available.

    Syrup and butter for me.

    No sour cream.

    Occasionally a sweet cream cheese spread on top for pumpkin or cinnamon swirl pancakes. Yummy.

    With waffles, I also like just a simple sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar (but then I don't add maple syrup though I still use butter) or a drizzle of honey along with butter (and again no maple syrup with that).

    But I can never go wrong with the iconic combination of syrup and butter.

    For both pancakes and waffles, typically syrup & butter, although I will occasionally use honey. Nutella is the best for either as well. Slather on a thick layer of the chocolate, hazelnut goodness!

    Syrup's my preference. Butter never does any harm. Not a fan of sour cream. If I have anything savory of a pancake, it'd be cheese, probably brie.

    Australia likes to put ice-cream on waffles and pancakes. My daughter loves it, especially with spinkles. I am lactose intolerant, so I miss out.
