The chair of the company has affirmed "Ni-key" as correct and preferred in-house.

As the chair of adidas has confirmed adi-das not a-DEE-das as correct. Which was self-evident to anyone who looked at the company founder's name.

The j's soften the l's that preceded them. When you pronounce the standard "l", it's the tip of the tongue that touches the palate. With the soft "lj", it's further back. It's similar to "gl" in Italian, I think.
