Lit The New Jedi Order: Still polarizing? Or has it fared better over time?

Often enough a death opens up new potential storylines for other characters. I personally tend to kill off characters who don't seem like they have much development potential left. Sometimes you also have to kill in the middle of the story to demonstrate that no one is really safe. But the emotional impact of course also plays a role.
