I thought they maybe wouldn't manage the landing, the rocket looked like it was getting buffeted around a bit on he way down, but hey they did it! Sweeet.

 

All sats deployed. And that wraps it up. 10 out of 10 to SpaceX.

Intelsat 35e launch set for 23:36 UTC / 19:36 EDT this evening. Due to the satellite being heavy (6 tons) and going to geostationary orbit, this will be an expendable launch with no recovery attempt. Live stream will be here:

NASA chief says they can't get to Mars

Years ago Burt Rutan answered a call made by NASA to design a Shuttle replacement. He gave up because he said the paperwork alone made it too expensive. I don't think this is simply a government fail though. Where have Lockheed and Boeing been all these years that SpaceX is now going to attempt?

 

A manned mission to Mars probably should be a joint international event. It makes logistical and financial sense, but the politics would probably make this difficult.

 

No powered Dragon landings

This changes a lot. Ocean drops for Dragon. This also means no Red Dragon mission. Not in this article but mentioned by Musk is he thinks we need a Moon base to get people fired up about further exploration. So far that i know this does not mean he is ditching his Mars plans nor planning such a Moon base himself.
