Okay, kiddies - CASTING CALL TIME!!!

Who would you pick to play the main characters if the WoT series were to be filmed? And, yes, we'll say that **insert dream director** (Spielberg? ) is directing it, and only the most scrupulous fan-dictated casting is being considered.

director = peter jackson (c'mon, the man did an awesome job woth LOTR!)

Mat Cauthon = me! or a young harrison ford
Egwene al'Vere = natalie portman (mmm!)
Elayne Trakand = tara reid (hot, and prissy!)
Lan = arnold schwarzenegger! (conan days)
Loial = andre the giant (think princess bride)
Thom Merrilin = sean connery (!)

lol, we used to always do that in the WoT chat room on EFNet in IRC...I can't remember who all we had though...casting calls are fun though.

 

we should have some rules...like they can only be cast if they could currently be cast (ie no andre or young ford), hehe.

 

okay, I posted it, and yet I'm having a terrible time! Anyway, here's what I've come up with so far:

Elayne - Elisa Donovan - yes, the girl from "Clueless." Hey, she looks Elayne-ish to me.
Nynaeve - Hilary Swank - don't yell at me yet!! She's got the look, just give her a long braid to yank.
Min - Rachel Leigh Cook - yeah, she's still pretty young, but she looks very Min.
Moiraine - Rebecca Gayheart - her face is kinda wierd, but she's just about perfect for Moiraine.
Aviendha - Claire Danes - MAYBE!! The picture I found makes me think she could do it, though.

 

What would be a good starting point in the WOT series?

 

Dave-You have to start at the beginning!! (I am currently halfway through #5.) Just be aware that you are looking at a major lifestyle choice once you get started. There are currently 9 big, fat (900+ pages) volumes, with #10 coming out in November. I love it!! There's nothing like curling up with a nice, long book that you know you'll like.

Sideshow-NO WAY could Arnold be Lan!! He's too...beefy. Lan doesn't have time for body building. Besides, I don't think Arnold is a good enough actor to pull it off. Lan is complicated. I see him as more of a Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn in LOTR). The characters are just very similar. Good call on most of the others, though. Especially Peter Jackson to direct. I've been a fan of his for years, ever since I saw Dead Alive. (If you haven't seen it, it's one of the funniest and most disguting movies ever. Just don't rent it at Blockbuster. They don't have the unrated version, and it really makes a difference. )

 

I think Ahnuld in Conan is pretty close to how Lan looks. Lan is supposed to be really big and a hard, quiet person. I don't think he would be a hard role, even for Arnold. He's just gotta stand there and look menacing...kinda like his role in the Terminator only not quite as dumb as the robot. Arnold also hefted that sword pretty good almost as if he knew what he was doing (for good reason b/c he did lots of training on that before they started filming). The only drawback with Arnold is as soon as he starts talking, you would forget it's Lan and all of a sudden it would be Arnold again, hehe.

Lan - how 'bout Oded Fehr? He was the guide in The Mummy, and now is on UC: Undercover. Looks very Lan-ish to me.

Mat - Jonathan Rhys-Meyers might work out REALLY well for Mat.

Perrin - Rufus Sewell could work...

okay, I'm stuck again... this is DIFFICULT!!!

 

that dude doesn't look anything like perrin...he's got curly hair but that's it...he's not huge like perrin should be (not tall, but built)...

 

This is hard! I have no clue who to put for most of these! What everyone else has put has helped me, and some of them might do very well in the role. kreleia, you got me thinking with Rufus Sewell.

How about Shannyn Sossamon for Min?

Peer presure has finally caught up to me and I broke down and bought the first of the wheel of time series. Man am I weak!
