It can be an actor/actor combo, director/actor combo, or director/director combo etc....... This is totally subjective. You pick which duos you think are the greatest and most influencial in cinema history. Here's mine.

    1. Lucas & Spielberg
    2. Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis
    3. Coppala & Pacino
    4. Harrison Ford & Spielberg
    5. Abbott & Costello
    6. Scorcesse & De Niro
    7. Bogart & Bergman
    8. Howard Hawks & John Wayne
    9. Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal
    10.Frank Capra & Jimmy Stewart

Stretching the bounds of your topic, here are two of the finest director/actor combos in world cinema.

    Fellini/Mastroianni
    Kurosawa/Mifune

    And what about director/composer?

    Spielberg/Williams
    Hitchcock/Hermann
    Leone/Morricone
    Burton/Elfman

    No particular order:

    Steven Spielberg/John Williams
    George Lucas/John Williams
    Steve Spielberg/George Lucas
    Steven Spielberg/Harrison Ford
    Tim Burton/Johnny Depp
    Tim Burton/Danny Elfman
    Peter Jackson/Phillipa Boyens/Fran Walsh (I know I'm cheating...sue me :p)
    Peter Jackson/Howard Shore
    Christopher Nolan/Christian Bale
    Christopher Nolan/Heath Ledger

Yeah, I know the last one was a one-time deal (sadly), but the performance from Ledger and the direction from Nolan combined into some of the greatest moments in cinema history, for me at least.

That's what this thread is about. Doesn't matter the duo. I'd have loved to have this in the Amphitheater forum, but any suggestion and reasons why would be welcome.

EXACTLY what sprung to my mind when I saw the title of this thread. I actually think the combination of Riggs and Murtaugh is SO under-rated.

Stephen, I think your Kurosawa/Mifune ends the discussion :p

Someone mentioned Crystal and Ryan, but what about Hanks and Ryan?

That would be me. I never really liked Sleepless in Seattle. When Harry Met Sally will always forever be etched in my mind as the greatest date/love story next to Casablanca.

    Some not mentioned:

    Joel and Ethan Coen
    Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre
    Bob Hope and Bing Crosby
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau (not actually one of my favourite pairings, but important none the less)

You might as well also include:

    and

    [image=http://content6.flixster.com/question/28/74/34/2874348_std.jpg]

although I wish I could find a less pedo-looking picture of these two.:p

Also, Kirk and Spock without Bones = lame.

I, for one, am deeply humiliated at how long it took us to mention those two. How did they not get in my very first post? And I say I moderate an art forum?
