    *sigh*
    Christopher Lee himself pronounced it:

    Tier-ANnus

    What more do you want?

And if DOOKU is pronounced "dough-koo" then why didn't Lucas just spell it with one 'O' like DOKU?

Just because Christopher Lee pronounced it weird, doesn't mean that that is the proper way. We won't really know until we see the movie really.

And the think with Dooku, there are lots of words that are pronounced differently from how they are spelled.

I think Christopher Lee would know how the name of his own character is pronounced.

But then again, at the end of TESB Hamill pronounced Tatooine like Tot-ooine. You would think he would know how to say it by then.

    <shrug>

And GL sometimes says "Hoe-th" for Hoth.
Its really a matter of personal taste then, people pronounce things differently, I say "Dough-koo", others say "Dew-koo".
    I say "po-tae-toe", you say "po-taa-toe".
I say Hoth, GL says Hoe-th, etc. :p

The secret about Dooku being a Sith wasn't well kept. Red saber? Darth on the commercials? Comon couldn't they do a better job?

I thought it was pronounced "TEAR-ANUS" as in, "I'll tear you a new *******". ;)

    Easy there Soma.
No need to get all flamey, all this is is a stupid discussion on how to pronounce the name of a person that doesn't even exist in real life, only in a movie that takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

    :p

I always thought of it as Tee-ran-nus, but yeah, Tie-ran-nus sounds better.
    Oh, and it's Doo-koo! NOT Dough-koo! :p

People say earth-names differently, so people should be able to say star wars-names differently.

I think i'll just call up my buddy GL and ask him. That will surely put an end to this debate. Even though he does pronounce Hoth wrong. :p

It plays into Lucas using subtle obscenities for his Sith Lord characters' names. It's not Ty-Rann-us, it's actually "Ty-rann-***," which would coincide with Emperor Palpatine's originally-planned name, "Cos Da****."

Just because Christopher Lee pronounced it weird, doesn't mean that that is the proper way.

It pertty much does. I saw an interview with him in which he spent literally five minutes describing exactly how to pronounce every character name in LOTR. He was very adimate about getting each name perfect. I don't see why it would be any different for the character he plays in AOTC.

I can see how it'd be different. Tolkien was very adamant about the pronunciations and PJ was, too. Apparently that thinking permeated the cast as well. Not only is GL not as much of a stickler on pronunciation, C. Lee never says his character's (Sith) name in the movie (to the best of my knowledge) and the name is only uttered once during the movie. I think it is very possible he is using the wrong pronunciation.

My favorite is Doug Chiang pronunciation of Gungan.

    Goon-Gun

BTW: The Taun-Taun speech pattern makes you hungry for Burger King. "Whoppers whoppers"

JediPraxeum, have you seen the movie? How would you know how Tyrannous is pronounced? You don't. I have heard Christopher Lee pronounce it *Tier-ANnus* and, as Snap-hiss said above, he pays close attention to details such as character name pronunciation. So I think it is you who should get over it, bub.

    I prefer "Teeranus"....as in tyranny.

Sounds better and that's actually the right way to say it if it was a real word.

I enjoy pronouncing things wrong then I guess. I guess it comes from growing up in Oklahoma, out here people can't seem to pronounce things very well. :p

Haha, indeed, accents out in these parts are great, I sometimes catch myself taking the "g" off of the end of "ing" words. :)

But anyway, I can't wait to see Count Dough-Kew in AOTC. :p
