The Holiday special is made remarkable only by its existence... I think every SW fan has to view it at some point along the road, like one of the gateways that promotes you to the next level... and it's on youtube, I'm sure. :p

It's been so long since I've subjected myself to GL's version of ATOC that I can't speak to anything but the romantic subplot, which sticks in my brain like a machete, ruining everything that's cool about Star Wars . It is clear to me and to anyone that has seen both films that the romantic subplot in The Holiday Special, is the more realistic portrayal of "love" played out thousands of times per second by people logged into PornHub. The creepy, unrealistic, cringe inducing portrayal of love in AOTC is exercised once per generation, per school by that school's lovesick all-black wearing teen who fancies himself a poet.

TPM was better than the Holiday Special only by three and a quarter parsecs. :p

TPM had Qui-Gon, Darth Maul, Padme when she was actually a capable character, Naboo...the Holiday Special had some absinthe and Pop Rocks introduction to Wookiee culture along with a mushroom samba nightmare of a cartoon that introduced Boba Fett.

And the Holiday Special is TV, so why not relocate it to the other forum you moderate?

As to the question, they are both brilliant.:)

Just because TPM can be seen on TV, doesn't mean it belongs in SWTV... I thought about that beforehand and it made more sense to relocate the thread to EUC because it doesn't fit in with TV or PT.

To me, it's no comparison. I can sit through an entire viewing of TPM and enjoy the experience. Whereas with THS, I sat through it once the first time just to say I did. But when it was over I immediately popped ESB in. THS is one of those full body shudder moments.

So discussion of The Phantom Menace belongs in the EUC? Discussion of a TV Special belongs in the EUC? While one can certainly lump anything 'not film' into the Star Wars Expanded Universe this forum has always been about the books & comics. There is naturally always going to be conversation that tie back into the films, or the TV - but this isn't the primary place for either of them.

Of late we have had numerous topics being moved here that don't really apply to this forum. From topics talking about how the "EU isn't canon" which had no real place here, to the discussion of the Clone Army - which would have been better placed in Lit.

It is just a trend that I'm not really understanding. Would there have been anything wrong with locking the thread, or moving it to the SWC? The SWC is a forum which, by its own definition, "In this forum, you can engage in lighthearted discussions centered around Star Wars topics that don?t seem to fit in the other forums."

I'm really not trying to make a fuss here, just trying to figure out the process in which topics getting moved here is decided.

I could have placed it in either forum; since both are capable of handling odd topics, but I went with EUC because I was able to tag it as a discussion. If you feel that relocating this to SWC will enhance your posting experience, then I'd be more than happy to move this.:)

It was a judgment call, as it could fit in either area. I'm good with it either way.

Oh and TPM was better, at least in my opinion. Though the Holiday Special did give us a look at Boba Fett, friend.... :p

To be fair, unlike "Manos", Holiday Special doesn't have the reedeming value of commentary from MST3K
