A thing taken from www.supershadow.com, the supershadow himself seems to be a friend with GL. The question was:
And for that matter what does "Darth" mean? (SuperShadow: ?Darth? is an ancient Sith word meaning ?the deadly ones.?)

    WT*??

I thought that Darth meant DARk lord of the siTH

    Any ideas??

Supershadow is no friend of George Lucas.

In fact, he may be insane.

I heard(not from supershadow) that in earlier scipts of A New Hope, they would call Darth Vader "Dark Invader"

I don't know how Darth Vader was formed, but it was sure cool.

Well... Dark lord of the Sith. Might be the origin of the word but it too sounds like a lot of bull if you ask me. My basic idea: "Hey, Now this is a cool name "Darth Vader"..." And then later some wiseguy EU-author makes Darth a title...

Actually, all the Sith names have a meaning. They each represent the behavior of the person. Vader means 'father' in Dutch(hence him being Luke's father), Maul is self-explanatory(violent), Tyranus means 'tyrant' in Latin or 'ruler'(he is a ruler/tyrant of the CIS) and Sidious means 'supreme evil', I believe, in Latin(he is quite evil). GL knew what he was doing when he created the names.

    Hockey's different here.

I'm gonna have to go with Maladour on this one. I think It was gonna be an original and the "Darth" title just stuck to help give the Sith Lords a common denominator. In fact, Emperor Palpatine was not called Darth Sidious until Episode I anyway, which, in my opinion, supports this theory.

i think i heard somewhere that the word "Darth" was latin for something, maybe like "dark" or "evil" or something.

Nope. Just because you don't know the word doesn't automatically make it Latin!

Darth correctly means "father" in dutch.
As for tyranus, it's a greek and not a latin word...
