King Kong (1933) - Kong is such a lovable and tragic creature, despite being a monsterous voyeur with an appetite for human flesh and penchant for tossing dames off high rises. Classic film with a sympathic beast of burden. And memorable quirkiness.

The Osterman Weekend (1983) - Starring Rutger Hauer, John Hurt, Burt Lancaster, Craig T Nelson, Dennis Hopper. A schlocky espionage thriller by the master maverick himself. Still an thoroughly enjoyable film but this is not the same Peckinpah that literally delivered audiences a string of ten truly classic films in a row. Without giving too much away the film concerns a CIA operative, Lawrence Fassitt (Hurt), whom has exposed an secretive group that has designated itself as Omega whose members have close ties with both a known KGB agent and an investigative TV host Tanner (Hauer). The latter of which the group enjoy an annual weekend get-together as Berkley alumnis. Fassitt's boss Danforth (Lancaster) gives the green light to confront Tanner and seek his co-operation as a means of turning the suspected traitor agents of Omega (or eliminate them). And thus begins a tension building mind **** once the alumnis gather at Tanner's place, nicely deployed and perpetuated by Fassitt in a controlled environ. A relatively weak ending only because of implausible annoyances but has some nice twists. It still remains a cautionary tale against the corruption of media and commentary on America's over dependency upon television.

    The Producers (1st time)
Hilarious. Mel Brooks movie![face_laugh] Gene Wilder is great in it. Though could have been better in a few parts.
"Gregor Samsa awoke one morning to discover that he had been transformed into a giant cockroach." Nah, it's too good.- May Bialystock [face_laugh] And next month the remake opens wide!:D

ROTK: EE. A classic, but I think I like the theatrical a little bit better. Keeps up the suspense more. Especially with the Dead Army. In the theatrical, you don't know if Aragorn succeds in recruiting the Dead Army until the final scenes of the Minis Tirith battle. But in the EE, The leader of the Dead Army immediatly fights alongside of Aragorn.

I Heart Huckabees: Strange movie. I wouldn't even have watched it if my brother didn't want to record it. It was just weird.
Closer: Interesting movie. It wasn't the "porno" that everyone told me it was. It had a lot of twists and turns, though.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Nice, dark cinematography, sinister music, and good acting, but the initial pace was too speedy and some of the cutting a little too choppy. Oh, and there were some awkward/irksome (but thankfully minor) additions.

Just finished up my run of Farscape, finished with the Peacekeeper Wars, all of which was outstanding.
Also watched I, Robot, which was just as fun as ever.
And, because I'm bored, watching an episode of Battlestar Galactica.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Intruiging film but definitely not as good as all of the hype suggested, IMO.

I saw "Sin City" for the first time and an odd little french sci-fi movie called "Immortel" which was kind of like a sexier The Fifth Element.

Sin City was OK but Jessica Alba had way too many clothes on for a stripper.

Mickey Rourke was great as was Bruce Willis.

Woody Allen's Zelig. Zelig is a "human chameleon" who adapts to hosts in order to be accepted.

So it's based on Allen's own life?

    :p

    This weekend:

The Miniver Story - bizarre follow up to Mrs. Miniver. Not nearly as good as the original, which is a four star movie all the way. There are some poignant moments and Garson and Pidgeon are both very good. Best scene: Garson goes to see her daughter's married lover, who proceeds to devour the scenery like no one before or since.

The Godfather, Part II - words fail me. A masterpiece. My third time watching it and it's still transfixing. Cazale should have had a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Finally got around to seeing Walk The Line.

It's a terrific film, Phoenix deserves an Oscar nom, and Reese Witherspoon held the part of June down fairly well, although she in no way deserves Oscar attention IMO.

I hestitated a bit before seeing this; I wondered if it would be a typical musicians' biography: poor/rough beginnings, innocent but talented young man has a dream and overcomes all naysayers, experiences success which slowly tears his family apart, gets hooked on drugs and hits rock bottom, re-invigorates himself. And it was, but if you can take it by itself it tells a great story.

Saw Goblet of Fire twice on the weekend.
The Beauxbaton's girls on their own are worth the price of admission. =P~
Emotive scene near the end after the maze was well done IMO.

Good Night, and Good Luck this weekend. Truly great movie. 5/5.

This has been a great year for movies for me personally, but I suppose that's for another thread...
