I thought Maul was a Zabrak, but it called him an Iridonian in Darth Maul: Sobeteur by James Luceno (e-book). Is that the planet Zabraks are native too or a mistake on my part?

Zabraks are from Iridonia, and some sources call them Iridonians. Zabrak is more correct, though Iridonian Zabrak is Ok, if somewhat redundant.

Well, Iridonian Zabrak describes a Zabrak from Iridonia. The Zabrak inhabit several colony worlds.

KOTOR 2 has Bao-dur being called both, though Iridonian more than Zabrak.

Zabraks do have colonies, so calling them Iridonian clarifies that they were born on the homeworld.

Which differs slightly for other, strictly human, cultures, such as the Miraluka...their homeworld is Alpheridies, also having established colonies on planets like Katarr, yet all were known as "Miraluka" to the galaxy at large.

Interesting that, compared to other species. Alderaanian and Corellian colonists are still thought of as "Alderaanian" and "Corellian," yet on occasion we see certain races taking on entirely new appellations after leaving their homeworlds/sectors.

Yeah, like Gran living on Malestare being referred to as Malestarians.

Are you sure? I think they still called themselves Gran. Probably to distinguish them from the Dugs of Malastare.

It's like aliens from another planet calling humans, cats, dogs, and horses all Earthlings I guess.

The TPM VD referred to them as Malestarians.

I've never seen them referred to as Malestarians, only as Gran.

I'll toss a spanner in the works, with regard to Iridonian Zabraks being born on Iridonia.

    Eeth Koth

    Whoops. :p

Koth isn't even Iridonian. There are several horn variations. Iridonians have the crown type.

Koth and Agen Kolar are a different race.

Er, check the link I posted - it's from the official SW website, and it explicitly says Eeth Koth is an "Iridonian Zabrak".

Iridonian isn't a species, it's a nationality. Kind of like how Han Solo is Correlian but still human.

Well, yeah. I'm just pointing out that the statement "Iridonian Zabraks are born on Iridonia" is false, because Eeth Koth was born on Nar Shaddaa, but is still considered an Iridonian Zabrak (for whatever reason).

Probably because there are racial differences in Zabraks depending on the enviornment they were raised in, and so an immediate descendant of a Zabrak from Iridonia would still have the characteristics of an Iridonian Zabrak, even if he wasn't born on Iridonia.

An example is how even though my mother wasn't born in Italy, she is still considered an Italian human.

The interesting thing with Eeth Koth is that the OS calls his species Iridonian Zabrak and says his homeworld is Nar Shaddaa. However, Maul's homeworld is simple stated as being Iridonia and his species as Zabrak. My guess with Koth is that his parents were from Iridonia and moved to Nar Shaddaa, where Eeth Koth was born. This would certainly go along with the suggestion that Iridonian refers to nationality.

Aren't Zabraks just humans anyway? Like Chiss, Massassi, Theelin, and Firrareo?

Rogue Wook, they're not different races, Maul just painted his whole body. It's already been said his Sith-class tattooes are his painted body, not a simple insignia.
