Obi-Wan watched from the ramp of the ship as his two sons and Luke went about gathering tree branches and rocks and anything else they deemed useful in building a dwelling large enough for what they decided was their family of five.

“Are you enjoying yourself?” Satine asked as she came to sit beside him. “You’ve been watching them for hours now.”

Obi-Wan chuckled. “I suppose I am enjoying myself. It’s a strange feeling; fatherhood. I look at them, one a grown man and the other a boy and I wonder what bits of them are from me. Then I marvel at the fact that either of them is like me in any way since I have not been…”

He stopped when he realized what he was about to say. He knew Satine felt extreme guilt over the fact that he had not been aware of either of his sons until the last few days and he didn’t wish to add to it by saying the wrong thing.

She reached over and ran her fingers through his shaggy hair. “You may not have been physically present in their lives until very recently, but they have both known you their entire lives. I used to deluge them both with stories about their father. I might have even let them both watch a bit of the HoloNet so they could see what you looked like. It’s no surprise to me that they both possess many of your mannerisms. They’ve both been as mesmerized by their father as I always have been.”

He leaned over and kissed her gently. “We need never speak of it again, my love. We are a family now and that is what matters.”

The two continued to talk quietly until Obi-Wan stood and stretched his back. “I need to go speak with Master Yoda. Training Luke is…training Luke and Jathan is going to be…”

“You intend to train Jathan as well?” Satine asked, her tone more than a bit aghast at the idea.

“Yes,” he said haltingly. “Is that not something you’d agree to? Do you wish him to remain untrained?”

Satine stood as well. “What are the dangers in training him versus leaving him untrained? Especially now that the Jedi are…”

She didn’t finish her sentence and for that Obi-Wan was grateful. It was still a very raw wound for him, even twelve years after the events that nearly eradicated the entire Jedi Order.

He grasped her hand in his own larger one. “We’ll both speak with Yoda. I believe they both need to be trained. It will be of the utmost importance they both understand how to control their abilities and their emotions. That is especially true in Luke’s case.”

Satine’s gaze drifted to the young Skywalker boy. She saw so much of Padme in the child; not in looks but in temperament and personality. He was quiet and gentle, and he appeared to always be watching those around him. She’d noticed him staring at Obi-Wan a lot after the story of Padme and Anakin had been told to the boy. It was as if he was looking for something of his parents, his father in the man who had been his teacher, brother and best friend all in one.

“They’re both so young,” Satine muttered to herself as they walked through the swampy grassland towards Yoda’s hut.

    /////

    The smells of caramel and…

“Is that…cranberry,” Satine asked in amazement as they approached the hut.

They could see that a small fire had been lit inside the tiny dwelling. Dagobah wasn’t necessarily a cold world, but it was extremely damp, and the moisture could seep into your bones easily, making it feel cold.

    “I haven’t smelled caramel and cranberry since…”

“…Draboon,” Obi-Wan finished. “I remember. Qui-Gon had brought them with us from Coruscant. They were his favorite tea flavors. The man never went anywhere without those two flavors.”

She grabbed his hand as they walked, sensing his sadness at remembering his old master. She squeezed his fingers in an attempt to comfort.

As soon as they arrived and were seated inside and handed cups of warm cranberry tea, Yoda spoke. “Come to see me you have about training.”

“Yes, Master,” Obi-Wan answered easily, not at all shocked that the ancient Jedi knew exactly why they were there. “We must train them. We don’t have a choice.”

“We do have a choice,” Satine spoke seriously, contradicting him. “I mean no disrespect, Master Yoda, but there is always a choice. Luke and Jathan are children and what you and my…what you and Ben are suggesting is…”

“Call him Ben, why?” Yoda asked suddenly, completely off topic.

Both Satine and Obi-Wan blushed at the question and Yoda chuckled. “Ah, personal, it is. Back to discussing the children, we shall go.”

Obi-Wan cleared his throat. “Thank you, Master.”

“Clouded the future is,” he began quietly. “Strong is the dark side, cunning and powerful. Guided us to this very moment the Force has. Careful, we must be. But agree with you, I do. Trained young Skywalker and your son must be.”

Then came the objection Obi-Wan had been bracing for from Satine.

She took a deep breath before she spoke. “I can’t pretend to understand the feelings of loss the two of you must still be experiencing, but I can understand the need to try and restore what was once lost. But I cannot condone your plans to train these two children to battle the likes of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader!”

Obi-Wan knew she would be adamant in her argument against their plans. But he did not expect the tears he saw in her eyes before she looked away from him and took her leave.

“I’ll go speak with her,” Obi-Wan said after a few moments. “She’s…”

“Her child, young Jathan is,” Yoda said. “Protective mother, she is. Blame her, I do not. But, made to understand she must be.”

Obi-Wan nodded as he stood to leave as well. “I’ll do my best to convince her, Master. She is…very headstrong and opinionated. It won’t be easy.”

Yoda chuckled. “Love her, you do. Faith, I have in your powers of persuasion.”

For the second time that day, Obi-Wan was left blushing. He wondered if Yoda had any real idea of the methods he was considering for persuading his former lover that he was right. He stopped wondering when he heard Yoda again chuckle as he left the dwelling.

    /////

Korkie looked up from the can of stew he had found onboard the ship when he noticed his mother hurry onto the ship as she appeared to him to be wiping away a few tears. He was about to follow her when he saw his father trailing behind. He decided quickly that whatever was happening, it needed to stay between his parents. He turned around and set to helping Jathan and Luke on their supply mission.

Satine was wearing a hole in the deck plating when Obi-Wan stepped into her path and forced her to cease her pacing.

    “Darling, please…”

She glared deeply at him. “Don’t call me that. Not right now. Not when…not when you want to raise our son, our baby and Luke to be warriors simply for the purpose of killing Palpatine and Vader.”

Obi-Wan took a deep breath to steady his own emotions before he spoke. “I know you’re afraid, Satine. I know you’re just trying to protect your…our son.”

Her tears began again, and she wiped at them angrily, a quiver beginning in her hands. Unable to stand back, Obi-Wan stepped forward and took her hands gently into his own. He twined their fingers together and rested them against his chest, over his heart.

“You aren’t alone any longer, cyar’ika,” he told her softly. “I’m here. We are in this together. I want to protect Jathan and Luke just as you do. I want to protect Korkie even though he’s a grown man already.”

“Then protect them, Ben,” she whispered. “Don’t teach them to fight.”

“Should I not also wish to protect the galaxy?” he retorted. “For the past twelve years, Palpatine and Vader have brought destruction down upon all we hold dear to us. They have systematically hunted down and murdered nearly the entire Jedi Order. They have imprisoned those who dare speak out against them. Should I not want to protect the galaxy from more of the same now that we have a small glimmer of hope that we can change things?”

She pulled her hands from his and turned away from him but did not move. He saw her shoulders begin to shake and he inched forward and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her back against his chest. Her sobs broke free and Obi-Wan held her tightly, supporting her and the weight of her grief and fear.

“I promise you, I will be with them every step of the way,” he whispered into her ear. “So will Yoda and so will you. We will protect them and they will learn to protect themselves as well.”

Satine’s sobs began to taper off and she turned in his embrace and wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head in the crook of his neck. Obi-Wan pressed a soft kiss to her forehead and ran his fingers through her hair.

“You believe this is a fight we can win?” she asked him, her fingers gliding through his shaggy locks.

Obi-Wan nodded. “I do. It won’t be easy, and it certainly won’t be fast. Yoda and I have a lot of groundwork to lay and not just with the training of Luke and Jathan. There is…”

“Tell me later,” she whispered against his lips. “I’ve missed you terribly, Ben. My heart and my body have ached for you.”

He deepened their kiss and pulled her body flush against his for only a moment before he swept her into his arms and carried her to the bunk.

“I’ve missed you, too,” he told her before leaning down and connecting their lips again, igniting a golden fire between them that burned well into the night.

    /////

Obi-Wan awakened when he heard Korkie calling out cautiously to his parents. He looked down at Satine still sound asleep across his chest. He feared moving would awaken her and her knew she needed to rest after the emotional upheaval of hours before and the physical exertion that had followed. Still, Obi-Wan knew Korkie was worried, so he moved as gently and quietly as possible and managed to get up without waking his beloved.

Korkie blushed when he saw his father come out from the back of the ship in only his brown trousers. Obi-Wan knew the boy, man he corrected himself mentally, was not used to the idea of his mother with a man, even if that man was his father. He’d never experienced his parents together before now.

“Are you okay, ad’ika?” he questioned his son as he sat down across from him at the dining table.

Korkie was about to answer when his eyes were drawn to the right side of his father’s upper body. He saw the burn scars that ran from his shoulder down to his waist. He swallowed hard and was about to ask a question when Obi-Wan spoke.

“Souvenirs from my last encounter with Vader,” he explained in a matter-of-fact tone.

“Are they…are they painful?” Korkie questioned. “They look painful.”

Obi-Wan smiled. He’d learned quickly that his eldest son had a compassionate streak hundreds of kilometers wide. It reminded him very much of Satine.

“They were very painful in the beginning, two years ago,” he told his son. “But that was my fault. I should’ve spent much more time in the bacta tank than I did. I didn’t let them heal properly. It’s unlikely they will ever heal beyond what you see now.”

“Why did he burn you?” Korkie asked, unsure of he wanted to know the answer.

“That’s a bit more complicated,” Obi-Wan explained. “Twelve years ago, on Mustafar, Vader and I fought. In his arrogance, he thought he could…suffice it to say he made a mistake and I…did something I am not proud of at all. He ended up on the shore of the lava river and he…his entire body caught fire. Every part of him burned and it was my fault and because I wasn’t strong enough to kill him outright, he has lived in that suit every day since. Had I killed him and not simply left him for dead, this galaxy might look very different now.”

Korkie contemplated the words for a while before he asked his next question.

“Do you wish you’d killed him?”

Obi-Wan shook his head, not needing even a moment to formulate his answer.

“Yes, I do,” he answered plainly. “For reasons more numerous than I’m willing to discuss now. Perhaps I should go awaken your mother since it is nearly dinner hour.”

Korkie understood. He keenly grasped the fact that speaking about his former apprentice, his former friend was an intrinsically difficult thing for his father. So, he decided to leave it alone.

“So long as it’s not more of that stew Master Yoda had last night,” Korkie quipped. “I found something on the ship that was better. I ate some of that for lunch.”

Obi-Wan chuckled. “I will admit Yoda’s stews are a bit of an acquired taste. I’ve had years of practice. Your brother seemed to enjoy it.”

Korkie laughed. “Jathan will eat anything that isn’t secured to the floor.”

“That is certainly true,” Satine said from behind them, her eyes already pinned on Obi-Wan as she moved closer.

Obi-Wan turned towards her and smiled as he stood. He moved swiftly and within moments she was in his arms. She wrapped one arm around his neck while the other tenderly caressed the scars from his burns.

Like firebugs to a flame, Korkie thought to himself as he watched his parents.

Obi-Wan pulled her hand to his mouth and kissed her fingers one by one before leaning forward and kissing her lips briefly.

“Did you sleep well?” he asked quietly, the conversation whispered into the small space between them. “It’s nearly time for dinner.”

Satine rested a hand on his bearded cheek and nodded. “Of course. I always sleep better when you’re next to me.”

Rather than being embarrassed, this time Korkie watched their interaction between his parents. He knew that his mother loved his father. He’d been exposed to that his entire life, but to see in action the love his father had for his mother was amazing. It existed between them as a tangible thing to see and hear and feel.

“Korkie?” Obi-Wan called to his son.

Korkie shook his head and glanced at his father. “Yes?”

“Will you go round up your brother and Luke and let them know that it’s just about time for dinner?” Obi-Wan asked. “Another meal with Yoda.”

Korkie stood and stretched his muscles before heading outside, mumbling all the way about disgusting tasting stews.

    /////

Korkie laughed as he saw his younger brother and Luke tossing mud at each other as they played together in the swamps. Both boys had forgotten their mission of gathering supplies for building a dwelling.

“Hey, you two,” he called out. “Time to head to Master Yoda’s for dinner.”

Both boys ran off as the three adults followed them. As they approached Yoda’s hut, the old Jedi was outside with his arms full of…something.

“Master…what is all that?” Obi-Wan questioned as he approached.

“The Autumn Equinox it would be soon on Coruscant,” Yoda answered as he floated twigs and what looked to be some sort of blossoms to the ground. They looked quite beautiful despite being the product of a swamp.

Luke and Jathan watched with wide eyes as Yoda gathered a few of the small twigs and a few of the blossoms using the Force and slowly and intricately bound them together; making two of them. When done, he hobbled over to Obi-Wan and handed the bundles to him.

“A bouquet of flowers for your wife, I have for you,” Yoda told Obi-Wan, causing the man to gape at the old master.

Satine giggled. “We aren’t married, Master Yoda.”

Yoda snickered. “Love him, you do. Love you, he does. Children, you have produced. Married, you are.”

Obi-Wan couldn’t stop the smile that crossed his face. “If you say so, Master.”

“Say so, I do,” he responded. “Make it official, we can. Allowed to marry, Jedi used to be. Gone now, our order is. Change we must.”

    Satine’s eyebrows raised. “Official?”

Korkie, Jathan and Luke wandered over. “We’ll be witnesses, Master Yoda.”

Luke and Jathan agreed wholeheartedly with Korkie’s statement.

Obi-Wan turned to the woman he’d loved for so many years and took her hands in his. He met her stare and smiled.

“Satine Kryze, I have loved you since nearly the first moment we met,” he began. “Through every day on the run and through every argument we’ve had over the years, I have loved you. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?”

With tears gathered at the corners of her eyes, Satine nodded. “Yes.”

“A wedding we shall have,” Yoda announced. “Stew I have made for dinner. Several bushels of fruits and vegetables I have gathered.”

Obi-Wan shook his head. “How? Where?”

“From Quinlan Vos, I have received supplies,” Yoda then revealed.

    “Quinlan!” Obi-Wan exclaimed.

It was the second time in the last two years he had heard the name of his old friend. Tala had told him that Quinlan had made his way to the Hidden Path and he had seen with his own eyes Quinlan’s name on the wall.

Yoda chuckled. “Tell you, I will. But first, the wedding vows.”

Yoda made the couple join hands and directed Korkie, Jathan and Luke to gather around them.

“Do you, Duchess Satine Kryze, take Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to be your husband?” he began. “Promise, do you, before this Jedi High Council member and these witnesses that a true and devoted partner, you will be? In forces of darkness and forces of light, promise do you, that wherever you go and whatever you face, that share your life in marriage you will with Obi-Wan?”

Satine smiled brightly at Obi-Wan. “Yes, I do. I promise.”

Yoda repeated the vows to Obi-Wan who also answered in the affirmative.

“Duchess Kryze and Master Kenobi consented together you have to be married,” Yoda stated. “Pledge your faith in each other, you have. Promised to be truthful and devoted to one another, you have. Pronounce you husband and wife, I do. Kiss your bride, you may.”

Korkie, Jathan and Luke all clapped and yelled their excitement.

Obi-Wan pulled Satine into his arms and took her mouth in a deep kiss. Jathan and Luke looked away, embarrassed. But Korkie closed his eyes and basked in the warmth he could feel emanating from his parents; the bond he could sense between them and the peace he could feel and…

Korkie’s eyes snapped open, and he found himself floating two feet off the swampy ground. He immediately fell when he realized where he was and hit his head hard on the ground; unconscious where he landed. Obi-Wan and Satine ran to the side of their son; stunned by what they had just seen.

Yoda hobbled over to Korkie and pressed a clawed hand to Korkie’s forehead and closed his eyes. It took only moments and Korkie awakened. He blinked a few times and sat up slowly.

“Easy, adi’ka,” Satine said as she helped him sit up.

Obi-Wan knelt by his son. “Korkie…”

“Okay, he is,” Yoda declared. “The strength of his father, he has. Jedi, young Korkie is.”

Obi-Wan shook his head in confusion. “But, Master, he…I can’t sense the Force in him. How is this…?”

“Tell you, I will,” Yoda revealed quietly, and somewhat sadly. “But like it, you will not.”

Thanks so much for writing for Autumn Bingo again this year! [:D]

This is a very poignant and emotional beginning for the story. Obi-Wan is both enjoying being a father and still absorbing everything that fatherhood means and coming to terms with the revelation that he is a father.

And then Satine is dealing with the guilt of him not knowing he was a father. So many emotions here for me to empathize with and to pull me into the story from the start.

Aww. I found this part really sweet both for how Satine showed them the stories of their father, and for how the sons came to admire their father even without knowing him in person.

I do like this discussion and point of tension between them and how it is ultimately resolved in the story. Well-done!

Smell is often said to be the most evocative sense, and it can be tied to easily to our memories, and I think you really captured that here with how the scent of caramel and cranberry is linked to such a detailed memory here.

Yes, wise Master Yoda has an uncanny way of sensing such things:yoda:

There is a lot of power and truth behind Satine's line here.

I got such a chuckle out of Obi-Wan's discomfiture here, and out of Yoda's obersation that it is personal[face_laugh]

I can practically hear Yoda delivering this line in his gravelly voice. It reminds me of some of Yoda's words about Anakin in TPM, so it feels like a story coming full circle and very Star Wars.

Yoda is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters in this story for lines like this=D=

This was a really moving line for me.

There is a raw honesty to this comment that really resonates with me.

    Aww. How precious!

That is such a profound intuition for Obi-Wan's son to have. Really reflective of that compassionate streak Obi-Wan noticed in his son.

I love the imagery of twigs and blossoms here. Very autumnal!

It's excellent how matter-of-fact Master Yoda is here!

And then for Yoda to go on and marry Obi-Wan and Sabine? Just perfection!@};-

“A block?” Obi-Wan asked incredulously. “What would…why would you do such a thing to a child? How did you do it?”

    Yoda’s ear slumped. “At Qui-Gon’s suggestion…”

Obi-Wan sprang to his feet. “Qui-Gon knew?! He knew she was pregnant, and he didn’t tell me?!”

“Knew, he did,” Yoda confirmed. “Sensed the Duchess’ pregnancy he did and informed the council, he did.”

Obi-Wan began to pace the muddy ground, running his hands through his hair in massive frustration. “So, the whole council knew I was going to be a father and no one saw fit to inform me? That’s just lovely. The woman I love didn’t tell me, my own master didn’t tell and…”

“Calm down, you will, Padawan Kenobi!” Yoda snapped with a crack of his gimer stick against a nearby rock. “Sit, behave like an adult, you will.”

He spun around then, eyes blazing with barely restrained fury. “Padawan?! You dare…”

Satine, Korkie, Jathan and Luke were watching the confrontation from the sidelines and Korkie could feel the waves of anger emanating from his father. So much so now that he was becoming lightheaded and nauseous, and his heart was racing.

Obi-Wan felt the distress of his eldest son and turned away from Yoda and again moved to Korkie’s side.

“Close your eyes,” he said softly. “Take deep breaths, in and out.”

Korkie did as instructed, and his breathing began to slow. He felt his father’s hand on his shoulder and took comfort in it.

“Now, I want you picture a stone in your mind,” he instructed. “Then picture another one. Put them together, as if you’re building a wall; a wall so impenetrable nothing and no one can get through.”

Korkie focused on Obi-Wan’s voice and did as he was told. He desperately wanted to block out everything he was now feeling; his father’s anger, his mother’s worry, the fear Jathan and Luke were feeling and Yoda’s determination to make everyone understand. He took deep breaths as he continued building the wall in his mind.

Obi-Wan smiled. “Good, adi’ka. Very good. Keep constructing that wall.”

Satine was trying to calm her own troubled soul at the same time she assured her younger son and Luke that things would be okay, that Obi-Wan was okay.

But she knew better now. She knew, despite his words, he would always be haunted by the fact that so many others had known about Korkie for so long and had never told him. She had known from early on in their acquaintance that he valued the truth above almost everything else, and she had begun the lie and others had continued it.

Korkie opened his eyes after nearly ten minutes and took a deep breath. Obi-Wan helped his son stand and put a hand on each shoulder.

    “Better?” he asked quietly.

Korkie nodded. “I think so. But I can still feel…everything.”

Obi-Wan nodded. “That’s okay. You’re going to feel emotions and sense things. As you learn to build your shields, it’s going to be…difficult. You did well just now so I don’t think it will be long before you can shield yourself.”

Yoda hobbled over and stopped next to Obi-Wan. “A good teacher, you are.”

Obi-Wan stood and did not bother to hide the glare he sent the way of the small Jedi. “You haven’t explained yet how you managed to block my son’s Force sensitivity. I’ve never heard of anything of the sort.”

“Willing to listen now, are you?” Yoda questioned.

Obi-Wan sighed and tried desperately to quell the childish retort on his lips. He felt Satine’s hand on his arm, her touch always a settling influence. He was amazed at her demeanor since this had been done to her child.

“I think we should listen to him, Ben,” she said softly. “Qui-Gon must have had a good reason.”

“Qui-Gon always had his reasons,” he told her. “Not always good ones.”

“To protect your child, he wished,” Yoda claimed. “Sensed the power in the boy, he did. Knew being Mandalorian and Jedi, at risk it would put him.”

“Leaving him without his abilities and untrained was protecting him?” Obi-Wan asked incredulously. “Anything could have happened to him without me there to…”

“Be there, you could not,” Yoda insisted. “Needed in the galaxy, you and Qui-Gon were. Safe young Korkie was with his mother.”

“He was, Ben,” Satine insisted. “He was safe with me, both before his birth and every day since.”

“Taught by his master Qui-Gon was on how to block Force abilities,” Yoda revealed.

Obi-Wan’s eyes narrowed. “Who taught his master?”

Yoda didn’t answer, which for Obi-Wan was answer enough. He wasn’t surprised. Obi-Wan was more than familiar with Yoda’s penchant for keeping his own council and for keeping secrets.

“How does one block someone’s Force sensitivity?” Satine questioned. “Admittedly, I know little about the Force; only what Ben has told me over the years. But I never was under the impression it could be blocked.”

“Block his Force sensitivity, he did not,” Yoda clarified. “Blocked his ability to access the Force, he did. Involve manipulating his midichlorians, it did.”

Obi-Wan shook his head. “How did he block Korkie’s ability to access the Force?”

Yoda climbed atop a rock and sat down. “Difficult it was for him since an unborn child your son was. Required the Duchess to be calm it did, so calm the baby would be. Still forming were the midichlorians as well, so more receptive to his methods they were. Effectively put them to sleep, he did.”

“He put them to sleep?” Obi-Wan questioned, his tone skeptical.

“Yes,” came Yoda’s simple answer. “Remained in an embryonic state they did for many years. Unable to grow they were for many years. Until…”

“Until?” Korkie piped up, but before Yoda could answer, Korkie gasped. “Ahsoka! It was Ahsoka. When she was on Mandalore, I was…I was injured and knocked unconscious. I heard her, in my mind. It was her, wasn’t it? She did something that…that fixed my midi…whatevers.”

Yoda’s eyes were a bit downcast. “Yes. Young Ahsoka, awakened your midichlorians she did when reached into your mind.”

“Why has it taken this long for him to show signs of Force sensitivity?” Obi-Wan wanted to know. “His encounter with Ahsoka was so long ago.”

Been around other Jedi, have you?” Yoda addressed Korkie himself.

“Just Ahsoka for a while…” he confirmed. “…and now my father for the last few days. Other than that, well…Anakin Skywalker for a few moments back then as well.”

“Surrounds this planet, the Force does,” Yoda said quietly. “Exposure to this planet, to your father, brought forth your abilities it has. Jedi you will be.”

Korkie stood. “What if…what if I can’t? I’m not as young as my brother and Luke. They can…”

“Do this, you can,” Yoda insisted. “Your father’s son, you are. Strong, you will be. Strong, you are.”

Processing such information about what his former master had done was difficult for Obi-Wan. He wanted to believe that Qui-Gon’s only motivation had been protecting Satine and their unborn child. But that little voice in the back of his head kept telling him there was more to the story as to why he had done it.

“I think I’m going to take a walk,” Obi-Wan announced.

Satine grabbed his hand and walked a few paces with him. “Please be careful.”

He smiled as he cupped her cheek in his hand. “I will, I promise. Not much here but a lot of mud. I think even I can manage to stay out of trouble here.”

Satine kissed him before letting go of his hand and watching him walk away. She turned to face her sons and Luke.

“We should eat,” she told them. “I don’t know how long Obi-Wan will be gone. We shouldn’t wait.”

Korkie was feeling pretty hungry after his ordeal, so he immediately went inside Yoda’s hut and took a large helping of the stew he had made, which held the same cranberry and caramel smell as the tea. Korkie figured it had to taste better than the previous version Yoda had made.

Satine sat down with Yoda as the old Jedi began eating his own meal. “Questions, you have.”

Satine wasn’t shy. “Yes, I do, many of them. The most pressing question I have is why don’t you trust my husband?”

Yoda met her stare. “Trust Obi-Wan, I do.”

“Then why didn’t you or Qui-Gon tell him he was going to be a father and let him choose his own future rather than choosing for him?”

Yoda’s bushy eyebrows raised. “Tell him, you did not. Why?”

“Touche,” she said. “I was…insecure in his feelings for me. I thought he would stay only because of my pregnancy and in the end he’d resent the fact that he’d stayed.”

“Needed Obi-Wan was,” Yoda began to explain. “Important he is. Knew Qui-Gon did that safe the baby would be with you. Knew that without Obi-Wan, the Jedi would…”

“Would what?” she asked between bites of the sweet bread she had smelled baking when they’d arrived at Yoda’s.

Yoda lowered his eyes, but Satine caught sight of pain in them. Pain and regret. “Fall, we would. Years ago, a vision Qui-Gon had. Saw the fall of the Jedi, he did. Saw Skywalker, he did. Knew Obi-Wan was the key to victory, he did.”

Satine tried to absorb that information and hold it up against what she already knew. The Jedi had fallen, as had the Republic. Skywalker had become Darth Vader. If there was victory to be had, she could not see the path to it.

“Jathan, look!” they heard Luke yell.

Satine and Yoda looked over and saw Luke with his hand stretched out a couple small rocks floating a half meter off the ground.

Jathan’s eyes were wide, and he held out his own hand and tried to mimic Luke.

“Train them, we will,” Yoda murmured. “Train them, he will.

“He’s the key,” Satine whispered into the night.

Obi-Wan didn’t know how long he had been hiking through the dense foliage when he noticed the cave, but he knew his legs were beginning to tire. He was about to turn around and head back to his family and Yoda when he felt it.

    Strong.

    Powerful.

The Force. The dark side of the Force.

Fantastic conversations between Obi-Wan and Satine about the missed time together and how she made him familiar and known to Jathan and Korkie. I absolutely understand her trepidation about training the kids but leaving them untrained is dangerous. Gracious, I can so sympathize with Obi-Wan's immediate reaction: everyone knew and didn't see fit to mention such an essential crucial fact?! Satine's question and point are well made, that Obi-Wan was owed the truth so he could make his own decisions, but still and all, she also kept him in the dark for reasons that had nothing to do with grand abstractions of course. [face_thinking] =D=

Yes, Obi's headed to the cave. :D

    Yes, he will. ;)

Some part of Satine will always regret not telling him about either child. :( But ultimately, she made the decisions she did to protect both children since she knew Obi-Wan could not be with them.

Satine could not sleep. Obi-Wan had been gone for hours and all Yoda would tell her was that her husband was fine. It was incredibly frustrating. Other than her husband and a few brief encounters with Anakin Skywalker, she had very little interaction with other Jedi and she found Yoda absolutely confounding and massively irritating in his cryptic ways of explaining and answering questions.

She had sent Jathan and Luke to bed hours ago. Yoda had retreated to his hut leaving just herself and Korkie up waiting for Obi-Wan to return.

“I’m sure he really is fine, Mother,” Korkie said for what must have been the sixth time as he tended to the campfire he had built when the temperature had begun to fall.

Satine looked at her eldest son as she took a long drink of her amber=colored Corellian whiskey. She’d found the bottle on the ship and chuckled as she knew Obi-Wan must have found a way to get it onto the ship. She well remembered his fondness for the drink.

“Your father has a unique ability to find trouble at nearly every turn,” Satine remarked after another slow sip of the alcohol.

Korkie chuckled. “Well, at least I know where it comes from then.”

Satine was about to speak when she heard footsteps approaching from behind them. She and Korkie both turned and broke into huge smiles when they saw Obi-Wan emerging from the thick swamps.

Satine stood and practically ran towards her husband and threw her arms around his neck. Obi-Wan was knocked backwards by the force of her embrace. It was uncharacteristic of her, but he certainly didn’t mind after what he had encountered in the cave he’d found.

“I’m okay,” he whispered as he continued to hold her. “I’m sorry I worried you.”

Korkie approached his parents. “I’m going to head to bed now that you’re back. Good night, Mother, Father.”

They bod their eldest son good night and walked over to the fire and sat down together. Obi-Wan noticed the bottle of whiskey and wasted no time in pouring himself a glass.

    “Where’s Yoda?” he questioned.

“He retreated to his hut not too long after you left,” she revealed. “He seemed…pensive.”

Obi-Wan snickered. “I’m sure he knew where I’d end up.”

“The cave, you found,” said Yoda as he suddenly appeared in front of the couple.

Obi-Wan was quickly becoming unnerved by how off his senses had become since they’d arrived on Dagobah. He’d once described the feeling of the Force as a golden light burning brightly in his mind and soul. But on Dagobah, everything felt like a dull gray; stormy and unbalanced.

He cleared his throat. “Yes, I found it.”

    “Afraid, you were,” Yoda stated.

Obi-Wan glanced at his wife before looking back at Yoda and nodded his head in the affirmative.

“Yes, what I saw…I was afraid,” he admitted. “What is that place?”

“A vergence in the Force, it is,” Yoda answered. “A manifestation of the dark side, it is. What saw you?”

Obi-Wan took a deep breath. “I saw Maul.”

Yoda’s ears slumped a bit. “Naboo.”

Obi-Wan looked up. “No, Master, not Naboo. I saw Maul as he was on Mandalore. I saw…I saw Satine. He was holding her captive.”

“Engage him, did you?” Yoda wondered.

He breathed out deeply and appeared to fight tears. “Yes, Master. I…I cut him down as I had on Naboo. But this time, when he fell, and I looked down at…”

He stopped and Satine grasped his hand, lending him her strength to continue.

    “What saw you?” Yoda repeated.

“I saw…me,” he said so quietly he could barely be heard. “It wasn’t Maul anymore; it was me. Master, that cave…it’s…”

Yoda nodded. “The death of your wife, your worst fear is. Saw it you did. The dark spirit, bring to light all fears it does.”

He merely gave a small shake of his head, confirmation. “What’s the lesson, Master?”

“Deep your emotions run,” Yoda began softly. “Always have they. Be careful you must. Let your emotions cloud your judgement, you cannot. Like a werewolf in the night, they come for you if vigilant you are not.”

“You’re not going to tell me to let go of all I fear to lose?” Obi-Wan quipped. “I’m disappointed, Master.”

Yoda glared. “Good, it would do?”

Obi-Wan looked down at his hand, fingers entwined with Satine’s. “No, Master. It wouldn’t do any good.”

“Humph,” Yoda grunted. “Advised Skywalker, I did as well. Ignored the advice, he did. Let that be the lesson, you should, Obi-Wan.”

With that, Yoda hopped down off the rock and headed back inside his hut. Obi-Wan sighed as he let go of Satine’s hand and stood. He stretched out his back and looked back at her. She met his stare but did not speak.

“We should probably go to sleep,” he finally said. “I intend to begin training the boys tomorrow.”

She merely nodded, deep in thought about what Yoda had said to them.

“Satine?” Obi-Wan said her name as he moved closer to her. “Are you okay?”

Her head was down, but she raised her eyes to meet his. “Are we a liability for you, Ben?”

Obi-Wan nearly gasped. “Darling, no, no you’re not. Absolutely not. You give me more strength and determination than you can imagine. You are my heartbeat, my love. I wouldn’t have the strength to do what comes next without you next to me.”

“But you’re afraid of losing me,” she pointed out. “The way Anakin was afraid of losing Padme.”

He knelt before her and took her hands in his. “I am afraid of losing you, that much is true. But, not at all like Anakin. Anakin’s problem wasn’t in being afraid of losing Padme, it was in being incapable of letting go when he did lose her.”

She reached out and brushed his shaggy hair out of his eyes. “And you will let me go? Let our children go? Luke?”

He took a deep breath. “Yes, I will. I will not become another Vader, Satine, I promise you.”

Satine leaned forward and kissed him softly. “Let’s get some sleep.”

Obi-Wan stood and pulled her up and the pair headed for the ship.

“What shall I do while you and Yoda begin your training of our three budding Jedi?” she suddenly questioned.

Obi-Wan chuckled. “I’ve no idea. Watch, I suppose. Maybe you can continue to scour the swamps for places we can construct a dwelling or perhaps find more pleasant smelling and tasting herbs for Yoda’s stew.”

She punched him lightly in the arm as they walked. “Long ago, I visited Padme on Naboo during their autumn solstice celebrations. Theed was decorated beautifully, as was the palace. Padme invited me to her familial home. Her parents had organized a hayride for the children. They were taking place all over the city.”

Obi-Wan frowned. “What exactly is a hayride?”

Satine giggled. “There are large animals called Shaak that live in the grasslands, and they eat, among other things, something called hay. It’s a dry grass that grows all around. The residents gather it and cover their wagons which are then pulled around the streets by Gualama. The children were so happy. If only there was something of that nature here.”

He nodded. “That’s a wonderful memory.”

They reached the ship and found Korkie still awake, reading a datapad. He waved to them but didn’t speak. They headed back and checked on Jathan and Luke, finding both boys sound asleep.

They crawled into the larger bunk and snuggled together.

“I miss her,” Satine whispered from the safety of her husband’s arms.

He held her tighter. “I do, too. I miss them both.”

Satine pressed deeper into his arms and closed her eyes, dreams of a better time before war took so much from them both carrying her away.

Superb distinction as Obi-Wan admits to fearing loss but not to the extent of not being willing to let go or to the extent that no price is too high to keep them, not safe, but just as something in your life. [face_thinking] He is so right that his family gives him strength to do what needs doing. :D on the hayride. A perfect bit of fun if they could arrange such a thing for the kids.

Maybe she kept her distance from Qui-Gon in their year together, or he was too cryptic for an immature girl to understand. Or perhaps Qui-Gon just had a lot on his hands, arranging their wandering life and looking out for two young people to spend much time getting to know her and vice versa.

What a daunting question this would be to raise, that he could witness his loved ones' deaths or loss to other methods, and go on and not turn Dark. Satine has guts to ask it.=D=

I'm finally (very belatedly) all caught up with this collection, and I absolutely love this AU! You build the world of Dagobah so well in this very particular context where Yoda has to coexist with a family of trainees, which is quite the transformation from the setup in TESB, and yet it's still good ol' Dagobah, complete with cave and nasty-smelling stew :p

And there were so many revelations in these three entries! The most glaring one, of course, is the one about Qui-Gon, both his role in "blocking" Korkie's Force development and his vision of the future. I can imagine how Obi-Wan must have felt; basically everybody knew that he had a son except himself. The moment when Korkie found himself levitating was simply jaw-dropping.

I also really enjoyed how you got Obi-Wan to play once more the role of the negotiator to convince Satine that the boys should be trained. Both their voices were very much spot-on in that scene.

As a bonus titbit, I got really excited how you integrated elements of the Kenobi TV series in this fic, with Obi-Wan's burns and Quinlan Vos being somewhere out there. I'm one of the people who thought that series was brilliant, and it's so nice seeing little details popping up in your stories!

And now, a question: why is it that everyone thinks Obi-Wan likes good Corellian whisky? Don't get me wrong, I'm totally on board for that, but I'm becoming curious as to why it's so obvious to everyone else too. (Mind you, I can so easily picture Ewan McGregor drinking fine whisky that it's probably my explanation right there!)

@JediMaster_Jen Well done on these next two installments, and I'm so impressed by all three of the stories you were able to write with the inspiration of the Autumn Bingo prompts=D=

Obi-Wan's indignation really rings true here, and I have to say that he has a legitimate reason to be upset in my opinion.

Oh, yes, that will be guaranteed to get Obi-Wan's attention: calling him a Padawan!

Aww. Fatherly Obi-Wan is the best Obi-Wan[face_love]

Correct, Yoda is. A good teacher is Obi-Wan.

This is such a sassy Obi-Wan line, and I love it:D

Everything surrounding the Force block was really fascinating and well-developed lore.

This whole conversation between Satine and Yoda was really well done and insightful as to both their characters and motivations.

Oh, wow, and this hits like a gut punch. What a way to end the chapter!

Yes, I can see how vexing that would be:yoda:

    So true[face_laugh]

This was such a vivid bit of imagery. A great way to visualize the Force on Dagobah and elsewhere.

And the reveal of the full nature of Obi-Wan's cave vision was well-done. I am in awe.

Thank you so much for writing all these stories for the Autumn Bingo challenge, and I am thrilled to have finally caught up with my reading of them[:D]

Glad you liked it. I think it is the fundamental difference between Anakin and Obi-Wan, how they approach loss and what they do with those feelings. Obi-Wan admitting he has the same fears is definitely something that Anakin needed to hear in the films as he was being trained. :)

You called it right-Qui-Gon didn't spend much time with Satine in this AU. He primarily left her protection to Obi-Wan. :)

Guts to ask, yes, and extreme courage to accept his answer. :D To know that he will let her and their kids go...:_|

She's a strong woman. :) She has to be strong if she's going to be with a Jedi, even one who no longer has an Order. It's still very much who he is.

I always try, when changing things to keep certain things recognizable. I didn't want to change Dagobah itself, but to build upon what we already knew of the place. :D And forcing a family on Yoda seemed like a fun idea.

In his desire to protect both Korkie and his father, Qui-Gon created quite a mess. There is resentment there from Obi-Wan, particularly towards his former master and to a lesser extent, Satine. And the vision- the question is, did he recognize Anakin when he met him as the person in his vision? If so, why did he take him from Tatooine in the first place? We'll get into that in another story!

I debated making Korkie Force-sensitive at all. :) Once I decided to do that, I wanted his abilities to manifest in an unexpected way.

I loved the series! It had some issues, but overall, I really enjoyed it and wanted to bring in a few elements from it into this story. I found the scene when Vader lit the fire and dragged Obi-Wan into it very compelling. It was such a deliberate and calculated act and illustrated how much hatred Anakin/Vader held for Obi-Wan. Brilliant scene! So, introducing his burn scars is a small nod to that scene, as is Quinlan. Simple reason there-I just adore Quinlan Vos. He may show up later in this series.;)

[face_rofl][face_laugh][face_rofl] I've noticed that, too! Not just in my own stories, either. For me at least, it's the same as you, I can absolutely picture Ewan McGregor knocking back a few whiskey's (which he absolutely shouldn't do). Ever since the club scene in AotC when Obi-Wan went "for a drink", I've always envisioned Obi as a bit of a whiskey drinker; Corellian, of course. Best in the galaxy.;)

    Thank you so much!

Obi-Wan values the truth, so being lied to just doesn't sit well with him at all-especially when it's people he's close to, people he loves that have lied to him. :(

There's nothing quite like being chastised by the Grand Master! :D

Isn't he? [face_love] He's determined to be a good father for his sons now that he knows about them.

    :D Yes, he is.

    He just can't help himself!:D

I found it interesting, the idea that not just the Sith could manipulate midichlorians. It seemed to make sense to me that Yoda would know how to do this and that he might have taught others, namely his own final apprentice, who then of course taught Qui-Gon. :) I still don't like the idea of midichlorians, but I can work with it. :D

They have the same compulsion, which is to protect Obi-Wan. Unfortunately, their methods are mostly misguided, and it ends up hurting him in the end. :(

:D Exactly what I was hoping for.

[face_laugh] Yes, me too. He's not the most straightforward of beings.

Trouble just seems to follow Obi-Wan wherever he goes.

Thank you!:D Even Obi-Wan has some demons. Quite a few, actually, and the cave brought to light just one of them.

Thank you for reading. I'm so glad you've enjoyed them so far. :)

As the days, weeks and months went by, Korkie, Jathan and Luke began to learn the ways of the Force. Mornings were spent with all of them eating breakfast together along with Obi-Wan, Satine and Yoda.

Satine had gone exploring at some point and had come across an orchard of sorts and she had found fruits and some new vegetables Yoda had been happy to have to add to his collection.

After breakfast, the established routine of training began with meditation, followed by physical exercise to strengthen their bodies, followed by lessons on the Force and using it, controlling it, learning to listen to it.

For Yoda, he had easily fallen back into his teaching. He had always enjoyed teaching and imparting his vast knowledge to the younglings, padawans, knights and masters over his long life. He did so now as well. While Obi-Wan was handling much of the physical training, Yoda had begun the lessons on the history of the Jedi Order, explaining how the order came to be and how and why it fell to Darth Sidious and Darth Vader.

“Keep your blade up, Luke,” Obi-Wan instructed as he walked around all three students. “Jathan, you’re favoring your front leg. Remember, balance is important. You need to be able to pivot at a moment’s notice.”

    “Yes, Master,” Luke replied.

    “Yes, Buir,” Jathan followed.

Satine chuckled from her spot across the clearing. She was seated in a chair Korkie had managed to build. It had cushions from the ship and was sturdy.

The young man had taken to building as if he’d been born to it. The physical labor of living on Dagobah had bulked up his thin frame as well. While also training, he’d spent the last six months making great headway on spacious dwellings for himself and one for her, Obi-Wan, Jathan and Luke.

Korkie had handled well the revelation that Qui-Gon had blocked his ability to use the force. He was upset, of course, but in the end that mostly related to his mother not being involved in the decision. Over the last few months, his abilities had grown exponentially. He had a bit harder time learning to control them than Luke and Jathan, but his progress was amazing. Yoda and Obi-Wan were both quite impressed and Korkie had found two true luminaries of Jedi instruction.

In all her years, Satine had never imagined she would end up where she was. She had been prepared to spend her life leading an entire star system, but to spend it on a swamp-ridden world…

“Never in a million years,” she muttered to herself.

“Never in a million years what?” Obi-Wan asked as he came up behind her.

She jumped, startled. “You must stop sneaking up on me.”

He chuckled as he sat down in a chair beside her. “But it’s so much fun, and quite easy to sneak up on you.”

“You’re such a child sometimes,” Satine teased. “I’m glad to see it, really. You’ve changed in the last few weeks.”

He shrugged. “A bit of hope will do that, I suppose.”

She reached out and took his hand in hers. “Yes, it will. I was thinking that never in a million years would I have imagined I’d be sitting in a chair, in a swamp watching my husband train my two, no, my three sons to become Jedi. I never imagined I’d be spending time baking. I don’t even really know how to bake. It’s been trial and error, for certain.”

He squeezed her fingers as they entwined with his. “You’ve done quite well. I think Yoda enjoys having someone to cook with him. I get the impression he’d been, like me on Tatooine, very lonely here. Jathan and Luke, and even us and Korkie being here seems to have reinvigorated him. When I was a child, he used to cook all kinds of things; breads, cakes, soups, stews and salads and would deliver them to all of us in the creche. That’s how I learned to eat his cooking. I loved the sweet bread he would make.”

She loved hearing about his childhood. He’d spoken of his younger years quite often once they’d stopped arguing when they’d first met so many years ago. His childhood had been so vastly different from her own and it fascinated her.

“Do you remember the cave?” she suddenly questioned.

He grinned naughtily. “Absolutely. How could I forget the first time we…”

Satine caught sight of Jathan and Luke wandering into earshot.

“…built a campfire,” she covered as the boys stopped next to them.

“Did you enjoy your lesson with Yoda?” Obi-Wan asked the pair.

Luke nodded, a pensive look on his face. “I had no idea there had been so many Jedi and my…my father destroyed them all.”

Obi-Wan stood and went to kneel in front of the boy. “Luke, I want you to listen to me very carefully. Your father, Anakin Skywalker, was a good man. He was an amazing pilot, a gifted Jedi and he was a…he was a good friend.”

    Luke frowned. “But, Vader…”

Obi-Wan shook his head. “Vader is not your father, Luke. When Palpatine manipulated Anakin and made him believe things that weren’t true and played upon his fears and insecurities, he…he betrayed Anakin and…the good man who was your father was destroyed. Vader is all that is left. Anakin is very much gone. He no longer exists.”

Luke hung his head. “There’s no chance that…that maybe…some part…?”

It broke Obi-Wan’s heart to hear the beginnings of that question. But he’d resolved to tell the boy the truth.

Obi-Wan stood and pulled Luke into a hug. “No, Luke. There is no chance that any part of Anakin still lives in Vader. He is all that remains now. But you’re a part of Anakin, you and your…”

A loud alarm sounded from the direction of Yoda’s hut then. Obi-Wan let go of Luke and ran towards the hut.

    “What is that?”

“Proximity alert, it is,” Yoda answered in a clipped tone.

Obi-Wan watched as Yoda pulled out a datapad and activated it. As the screen sprang to life, Obi-Wan and Yoda both saw a ship descending through eh atmosphere.

“Am I the only one who knows you’re here?” Obi-Wan asked as he reached down to his belt and unclipped his lightsaber.

“No,” Yoda said in a much more upbeat tone than Obi-Wan thought necessary considering they were about to have an unexpected visitor.

“Only one person, it is,” Yoda told him as he made his way out of the hut.

Satine, Korkie, Jathan and Luke were all standing together as Obi-Wan went o join them. All eyes were trained on the small cargo ship that was descending rapidly into the clearing Obi-Wan and Korkie had completed a few days prior.

Obi-Wan tensed as the ship sat down. His fingers curled tightly around the hilt of his lightsaber. As the ramp began to lower, he ignited the blue-bladed saber.

“Need that, you will not,” Yoda told him. “Welcome, this visitor will be.”

Obi-Wan trusted Yoda, but he was still skeptical. He reached out with his senses and the presence he felt was familiar, but he couldn’t place it. He watched closely as the figure slowly emerged.

What felt like years was only moments, and when the figure was finally fully visible, Obi-Wan was in shock. Sure, he’d known. He’d seen his name on the wall and Tala had confirmed it, but to see him…

    “Quinlan!”

Startled by the use of his real name, the tall Kiffar looked up and broke out into a huge grin and sprinted down the remainder of the ramp.

“Obi!” he yelled as the two men met in the middle and grasped each other in a tight hug that s their happiness at finding the other alive and well.

When they pulled back minutes later, both men had tears in their eyes.

“Never thought I’d see you again,” Quinlan said on a soft voice.

“I met Tala, two years ago,” Obi-Wan began. “She told me you were alive then, but…I didn’t imagine I’d ever see you again. It’s so good to see you, old friend.”

Quinlan’s eyes drifted to Satine, Korkie and the two boys. “Who’re they?”

Obi-Wan moved back to Satine and wrapped his arm around her waist. “Quin, this is Satine, my wife and this is Korkie, Jathan and Luke. Korkie and Jathan are my sons, and Luke is…”

“Skywalker,” Quinlan suddenly said as he looked at Luke. “You look just like him, kid. Is your dad here, too?”

Quinlan knew he’d said something wrong when he registered the looks on everyone’s faces, especially young Luke.

“No, Quin, he’s…Anakin isn’t here,” Obi-Wan said sadly. “Anakin is…”

“Hey, I’m sorry,” Quinlan said as he looked at Luke. “I’m really sorry, kid.”

Luke nodded but remained silent as he turned and walked off towards their home. Jathan didn’t ask permission, but ran after his friend, wrapping his arm around Luke’s shoulders as both boys went inside.

Quinlan turned back to Obi-Wan and Yoda and pinned them both with a stern glare. “What happened to Skywalker?”

Satine looked at her husband, resting her hand on his flannel-covered chest. “You stay and speak with your friend, Ben. I’m going to check on Luke.”

They shared a tender kiss before Satine headed off. Korkie looked after his mother then back at his father.

“Mother, wait! I’ll come with you,” he called out and took off at a jog to catch her.

“Inside my hut, we shall go,” Yoda said then and led the two men away.

“Nice digs you got here, Yoda,” Quinlan quipped as he and Obi-Wan ducked down to be able to go inside. Once there, Quinlan was surprised to see that it was quite spacious. “Wouldn’t have guessed anything here could be so nice.”

Obi-Wan sat down and stretched his legs out in front of him while Quinlan took a seat across from Obi-Wan and sighed wearily.

"Now that the little ears are out of the way," Quinlan began. "What happened to Skywalker?"

Obi-Wan took a deep breath, and over the next hour he told the entire story up to the events on Mustafar to his old friend.

"I thought he was dead," Obi-Wan whispered sadly. "I watched him...watched him burn and...and I truly believed he had died that day. I never imagined...that he would survive. Two years ago, I learned that he had indeed survived and had... had become..."

Quinlan suddenly understood. "Oh, my...that mechanical monstrosity is...is Anakin?"

"No!" Obi-Wan snapped and met Quinlan's stare. "No, Anakin is...the Anakin we knew is gone. He's dead. Vader is all the remains. Hate, anger, fear; they're all that's left. Anakin is gone."

With that, Obi-Wan stood and made his way out of Yoda's hut and towards the home he shared with his family.

Quinlan looked at Yoda. "Is he okay?"

"Lifetime of trauma, he has suffered," Yoda said quietly. "Memories of his parents’ deaths, he has. Died in his arms, Siri Tachi did. Watched his master cut down by a Sith, he did. Held Qui-Gon as he died, he did. Lost his apprentice, he did. Strong man, Obi-Wan is, but only so much can one take. Okay, he is not. But, okay he will be. Heal him, his family will."

Quinlan nodded. He had known about Siri, but Obi-Wan had never discussed what had happened with Qui-Gon. Sure, Quinlan had heard what everyone else in the Temple had; Qui-Gon had been killed on a mission and Obi-Wan had become the first Jedi in a thousand years to defeat a Sith. He hadn't known at all about Obi-Wan having memories of the deaths of his parents.

Quinlan stood and stretched his back. "Maybe I'll stay around for a while. I've got supplies for you on the ship. I've also got some information you'll be interested in regarding a few Jedi who may have survived."

Yoda's eyes sparkled. "Tell me, you will."

I loved Satine's quip about sitting in a chair in a swamp ;) with her family. :D I love the support Luke gets from Jathan, Korkie, and Obi-Wan and Satine. They really are a family. :) Quinlan coming - how cool is that. He definitely had a lot to catch up when he comes to Anakin. [face_thinking] I adore and agree with the statement that Obi-Wan's family will heal him.

And Jedi who survived, very welcome news.

It's nice to take an impersonal step back to realize what most of the 10000 or so Jedi heard via the grapevine, and yay, to see Quinlan!=D=

Nice to see this AU continuing where Obi-Wan is married to Satine and hiding on Dagobah with Yoda. But Quinlan knows how to find them.

Quin! [face_party] He's one of my favourite minor characters, and I love the fact that, whatever version of him a fanficcer chooses to go, he suffers from a chronic case of foot-in-mouth disease [face_laugh] In this case, it was unintentional, but he did put his foot in his mouth real good – especially since his question came only moments after Obi-Wan had to explain to Luke that his father was entirely consumed by the dark side with no hope of return, but then, we've heard that before and Obi-Wan was wrong.

What really stood out to me is that he decides to stay, and he even mentions other Jedi survivors. This little Jedi colony is growing, and I feel that it's the right time to say the proverbial "I have a bad feeling about this."

    Where It Begins:
This was such a fun read and a great continuation of the series.
The relationship that you've portrayed between Obi-Wan and Satine makes me able to 100% ship it here even though I've never made it to that part of TCW, and I love that we get to see various aspects through their interactions with Yoda, Luke, Jathan, and Korkie too.

[face_love] Gah, so sweet! And I like that the mixed feelings that their long separation brings up are addressed; that sense of "could have been" seems really believable. But they are determined to not let what they've missed out on detract from the reunion of their family, and that's really lovely to see.

Really interesting question for her to raise and one that makes a lot of sense to ask from the perspective of someone who isn't a Jedi. I can definitely respect why she's upset by the prospect of any of the kids being put in peril by their training. I think it shows a lot of wisdom that she's willing to ask Obi-Wan and Yoda about the pros and cons even though we do see her feelings are tilting heavily towards worry.

[face_laugh] Yoda enjoying the chance to tease Obi-Wan a bit here is one of my favorite moments. I like that we get to see there's a genuine affection for Satine on Yoda's side as well, even though years ago the whole relationship between her and Obi-Wan would have been seen as a problem.

That's definitely a serious consideration! One that I do tend to the opposite side of because it's not like they are going away on their own, but it's still something that has to be weighed and it makes perfect sense to me that Satine would be really, really concerned about it. Given that she spent much of her life trying to sway her homeworld towards more peaceful means of dealing with conflict, I imagine it would be especially heartbreaking for her to consider her own children (and Luke, who may as well be at this point) having to fight in that way.

:( Well, that was painful! At the same time, it seems like maybe that was a story that needed to be told. And sharing that complicated past with Korkie is giving him a chance to understand his father in a way that he may not have before. I think his compassion here means a lot to Obi-Wan, at the very least.

[face_rofl] There's one in every family. Sometimes more!

@};- Really beautiful to see them through Korkie's eyes here.

    :_| [face_love][face_dancing]

YODA OFFICIATING THE WEDDING. I AM DEAD. [face_rofl] Seriously, this is just perfect for them. @};- And I love the kids going wild in the background. :D

Impeccable timing! :p Someday this will be a great story to tell; it's just right now that it's a rude awakening for all concerned.

I'm really excited to see this thread in the WIP month list and looking forward to more of this one! [face_dancing]

So far I've only read "Where It Begins" but it's another great, intriguing AU and I can't wait to catch up when RL allows!

I love Satine's thoughts here about Luke's similarities to Padme. [face_love]

That's such a Yoda thing to do, I love it. :D Also: YAY, A WEDDING! Obi-Wan and Satine are wonderful together and I'm so happy for them. [face_love]

And then that cliffhanger with Korkie and Yoda's saying they won't like the answer...uh-oh. Again, this was a fantastic start to a great AU and I'm glad WIP Month gave me a chance to read it! :)
