Yes, thank you... it was always so lame to hear the cast and crew say Phasma was the first Star Wars live action villain during the press tour. Just shows you their ignorance of the saga that they didn't acknowledge Zam Wessel. She wasn't even a background character, she had a huge sequence in the film.

Yea, thats the political agenda as well unfortenly, so-called political correctness. I would've also tossed in Charal but that is Legends now, but one can still include Aurra Sing and Ventress before Phasma as well.

Charal the Nightsister really was the first female villain, since she was from the OT era. Ventress however was one of the best female villains from any SW source.

I would have to rewatch AOTC, but I could've sworn the sequence involving Padme's would-be assassin wasn't really that long. Not to mention she wasn't really a human anyway, right?

She had more screentime than Phasma did, and the latter point is irrelevant.

Why is it irrelevant? Are we talking about women like Phasma is or females in general? And one thing Phasma certainly has over Zam Wessel is that she's not some hired gun working for the man. She's the leader of the First Order stormtroopers. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

    *stares at 12-inch Phasma figure*

Phasma needed more screen time. Part of me loves that Finn owned her because I love Finn and he deserves some ownage, but I still think Phasma was a wasted opportunity.

But...I can't imagine any villain in Star Wars beating Ventress in coolness.

I would be just as curious to see some sort of origin story pertaining to Phasma. How did she gain in the ranks? Where did she come from? We'd assume she was most certainly around during the time of the Empire's downfall which climaxed by the destruction of the second Death Star.

Just re-watched Clone Wars chapter 7. Ventress was given two red sabers. (Not a fan of the EU backstory to those.) In The Clone Wars she carries two red sabers. I checked the wook for canon, but I can't figure if they were a gift from Dooku or did she bleed two crystals. Would be cool to get a canonical story about that and her relationship to Dooku. The canon needs more Ventress anyway. :p

The Phasma novel answers most of these questions.

I'll be more interested in her character if they give her a fairly prominent role in TLJ.

The impression I get from the trailers is that it will be a little more prominent than in TFA:

with what looks like a duel between her and Finn.

As a fan of Bounty Hunter, I actually kinda liked that connection to Vosa (though they look nothing like they did in the video game). Since Vosa was Dooku's apprentice as well, it seemed fitting. But since that's all gone it would be neat to see how "lesser" darksiders are taught by Sith to get red crystals. Considering Savage was simply handed his, wouldn't surprise me if Ventress was the same way.

Canon or not: For me the Genndy Tartakovsky-Cartoon-movie Clone Wars, V. I is crucial where Dooku gave Ventress the hilts, which were worn formerly by his Jedi-Padawan Komari Vosa.

It's not something exclusive to the Sith, but to the dark side. It's using the dark side to force your will on the crystal, instead of being passively in tune with it.

Also, there's no information on how Savage got his lightsaber.

After King Katuunko's death on Toydaria, Brother Viscus told Obi-Wan and Anakin at the Nightbrother's village, that a nightsister (Ventress) came along ten days before to take Savage with her. That's a pretty short time to have lightsaber-training and to bake his own crystals like Maul did once for his double-blade saber under Sidious' tutelage. I'm inclined to say that Dooku just handed over the ready-made lightsaber adjusted for Savage's huge size.

Or not. It's not like the construction of a lightsaber takes that long. It's as possible that he constructed it himself as it is that Dooku just handed it over to him.

No no, lightsaber-assembling takes only the screen time of the TCW-Episode "The Gathering" in S. 5. :p

When I was a kid I also deemed learning to play the guitar a quite easy thing.

Why did you ignore my post above about Zam Wessel just above the one you quoted?! As I already said, there was live action female villains in Star Wars before Disney's neo-canon. Wessel , Sing and Ventress were very prominent in the PT as antagonists, from the comics to a few video games, the micro-series to TCW. Sing even made an appearance in Marvel's Darth Maul comic, that also speaks of her continued popularity. Wessel, Sing and Ventress were fan favorites back in the day and to the present. I never thought SW was short on female heroes or villains from the Ewoks to whatever medium now however it seems overly forced & saturated by a socio-political edict which is out've left field. Thats my take on it.

The reality Phasma and the few scenes in the film, she did nothing in live action except basically stand there and deliver some throw away minor dialogue. That character ends up becoming a bad joke in the first outing, quickly caves to the enemy( responsible for Starkiller Base going up) and gets thrown in a trash compactor( off camera).

    _____________

For whatever dumb reasoning they never allowed or showed how Ventress got her Sith aligned lightsabers. Where those the same blades from the flashback of her and Narec or did Dooku get her new ones . In Legends they came from Komari Vosa by way of Dooku. By Dark Disciple she had to use the black market to obtain a lightsaber rather than seeking out her own stones and building it herself out've spare parts. I don't think they ever showed any Dark Sider build their own lightsaber yet which is sorta annoying. Jedi and later Imperial era Dark Siders would have access to finer materials and industry, someone like Ezra and Luke apparently build them from what whatever materials scrapped together. So far we seen or read about how they take kyber crystals and bleed them, usually formerly Jedi crystals. The Inquisitor lightsabers are too machined and over engineered (they have built in weapons and repulsor tech), they look factory designed as did the Jedi Temple Guards lightsabers.

Savage had to have been with Dooku for a few months training, its likely Dooku being so seduced with the false idea that he now has a Sith warrior of the caliber of Darth Maul, he may of came up with the idea of basing his lightsaber on that of Darth Maul's, the Dooku signature emitter shroud are also present signifying some direct influence from Dooku but the shrouds on Opress's lightsaber are also reminiscent of his ax/pike and so his is a rather unique weapon. Remember Darth Maul's lightsaber was two individual lightsabers that could be coupled together. Now Legends sources said that Maul based his weapon on the Nightbrother Zhaboka, a type of melee double-bladed staff weapon. He does use pike similar to Savage in Marvel's Darth Maul comic.

Apparently Dooku has Ventress use the curved hilts as he uses and her hilts functioned much like Maul's, in that they could be fused together as one. I think Dooku was smitten by Maul, since he also trained Ventress to fight in a similar mode as Maul. But most of her TCW appearances they have just using separate swords rather than the saberstaff.

It is all reasonable, but why then in TCW, s. 3 Brother Viscus told Obi-Wan and Anakin that a sister (Ventress) came ten days ago to take Savage with her? Just poor story-writing or did Dooku teach Savage the lightsaber-basics only?

I don't believe Viscus gave any exact timeframe. According to Dooku Savage did complete his first stages of his training , so some manner of months must have passed.

Dooku: You have completed the first stages of your training, and I am sending you on an assignment to Toydaria.

    Read more: https://www.springfieldspringfield....-show=star-wars-the-clone-wars&episode=s03e14

Anyhow, the enhanced Savage was able to use his enchanted ax to kill Master Halsey in a manner almost reminiscent of how Maul killed Jinn, by using the hilt to stun the opponent and deliver the killing maneuvers and blows. So even an untrained in the Jedi arts Nightbrother, was able to wipe out two Jedi. Its not clear how much of what Dooku was saying to Savage was fact and what was just goading . Savage's savagery was a byproduct of the Nightsister magic more than anything else. If Savage remained non-transformed and was properly trained in the Jedi arts he seems he would've been near unstoppable like Maul was in TPM I would imagine.

You know i really wish Ventress would have survived to rebels, sad that she had to die before the Dark times.
