Not sure where to put this.

From the sw.com article about the Duracell commercial:

One of the key creators of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, cinematographer Daniel Mindel, worked on the spot, and Duracell employed a new anamorphic camera lens and aspect ratio only used previously on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

    Anybody know more about this?

I think at this point we should just change the thread title to "JJ Abrams to Cause Adults to Squee Like Fan Girls" ;)

Do a fresh take on something (Star Trek 2009), people whine about it being too different. Do something slavishly honoring the original films, people whine about it being a pointless rehash.

That film was criticized for both of those things ironically enough.

I think Smith's comments about the old characters returning is a bit misguided as far as motivations as to why the new film will be so great. Don't get me wrong; I'm hyped to get one last adventure with Han and reunite with the rest of gang again, but what I think is setting up TFA to potentially be the best SW film since Empire/possibly best SW film yet period is how strong and dynamic the new characters all seem to be. If Disney and Lucasfilm want SW to really succeed in this format in the longterm, they needed to nail the new generation of characters in this film... and it seems that they've done just that.

What would be wrong with a logical continuation? Moving the story forward to new territory instead of a reboot, recast, or soft reboot?

I say meh to Smith, he says it's what we hoped Episode I, II,III, and VI were?o_O
it's interesting that Smith mentioned Hamill being present in Abu Dhabi and we know he's seen more footage than most have.[face_thinking]

Ok, that's exciting but if the movie stinks, Kevin Smith will want to change his name to Kevin Smithee.

I gotta be honest. As far as I know this plot is more like a ANH. ESB expectations is only leaving one for disappointment. This cast can no way rival the old. It's impossible. The new cast is a engine for gaining new fans and making more money. I'm not a big fan of the direction their going, but The nights of Ren is the only reason I'm interested at this point. I am also bored to death when I watch the hunger games, but people love it and that scares the cap out of me going forward.

Please do enlighten us as to how this makes any sense.

I also have no idea what The Hunger Games has to do with, well, anything. I mean, I have an idea, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.

I may be missing it but that's not from this article right? Where has Smith said Hamill was at Abu Dhabi? Because that is really really interesting.

Yes - does anyone have a link to the AbuDhabi quote, because that's exactly the kind of firm evidence that needs to be factored in.

Hmmmmm! That will certainly throw up a lot of speculation.

Firstly Smith could have misspoke. He could have misremembered. Or just chatting crap.

Or...Hamill was there but just visiting!

Orrrrr....Luke will be on Jakku! Maybe part of the flashback? Maybe more?

After that TV spot, I think it's safe to say that never mind possibly being up there with the best SW film to date visually, TFA will comfortably be JJ's best looking film to date.

Also good that it looks like a SW film, and not like his Trek (not that I thought it would).

plenty of casuals I know thought the trailer looked more Trek than SW, some even told me there seems to be a disconnect when watching it as it doesn't feel like the 6 previous movies in terms of looks.[face_laugh]

Agree, and for me one of the best results of these epic trailers and TV spots has been a massive reduction in anti-JJ posting on this board. Looks like he's hit this movie out of the park.
